Nov 13 (Reuters) - Twitter has hired former Google vice
president and deputy general counsel Nicole Wong as director of
its legal department.
Wong, who worked at Google from 2004 until 2011, announced
her move via Twitter. "New nest. Excited to #jointheflock," she
said, and attached a picture of the Twitter logo.
Twitter confirmed Wong had been hired and that she will
report to general counsel Alex Macgillivray.
In a tweet, Wong said that she is "thrilled" to be reunited
with Macgillivray, who worked at Google and reported to Wong
before being named Twitter's top lawyer in 2009.
Prior to joining Google, Wong was a partner at Perkins Coie.
"Whatever position (Wong) holds, it's a coup for Twitter to
get her on-board," said Eric Goldman, law professor and director
of the High Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara Law School.
"Nicole...is of the most experienced Internet attorneys around."
In October, Macgillivray told Reuters that Twitter was
expanding its legal department and planning to hire a few
commercial lawyers, as well as counsel to oversee Twitter's
European practice.
Earlier this month, it hired former Google lawyer Amy
Keating as litigation counsel.
