NEW YORK, Jan 31 (Reuters) - White collar defense attorney
Barry Bohrer is leaving the boutique law firm Morvillo,
Abramowitz, Grand, Iason, Anello & Bohrer to join the corporate
firm Schulte Roth & Zabel, a spokeswoman for Morvillo said on
Thursday.
One of New York's most high-profile white collar defense
attorneys, Bohrer was on the team of lawyers who represented
media mogul Martha Stewart in her 2004 trial on charges of
insider trading. He is representing former Dewey & LeBoeuf
chairman Steven Davis, who is the focus of an ongoing
investigation by the Manhattan district attorney into
allegations of wrongdoing related to Davis's management of the
defunct law firm. Davis has denied wrongdoing.
Morvillo partner Lisa Prager and attorney Lara Covington
also resigned to join the 370-attorney Schulte Roth, the firm
spokeswoman said, leaving Morvillo with 44 lawyers. She said the
moves are not expected to affect the firm's business.
Bohrer will be based out of Schulte Roth's New York office,
where he will work primarily on white collar criminal defense as
part of the firm's regulatory and compliance group, a Schulte
Roth spokeswoman said.
Prager will divide her time between New York and Washington
and Covington, who will be based in Washington, will be special
counsel, according to a statement released by Schulte.
"We look forward to joining old friends, with new platforms
for our practices and new challenges to meet on behalf of
clients," Bohrer said in the statement released by Schulte.
Morvillo partner Richard Weinberg said in an emailed
statement, "Both Barry and Lisa remain good friends of our firm
with close ties to many. We look forward to working alongside
them in the future."
