Jan 9 (Reuters) - Former judge Barbara Jones has joined Zuckerman Spaeder as partner in New York. Jones, who was with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, will focus her practice on internal investigations, corporate compliance issues and monitorships.

George Freeman, former vice president and assistant general counsel at The New York Times Company, has moved over to Jenner & Block in New York. He will be of counsel in the firm's content, media and entertainment practice.

Joshua Rovine has rejoined Sidley Austin as partner in New York, in its pooled investment entities group. Rovine most recently was general counsel of advisory services and chief compliance officer at Blackstone Capital Partners. He was previously partner at Sidley from 1998 to 2002.

Also in New York, Carter Ledyard & Milburn has added Pamela Mann as partner in its trusts and estates department and as chair of its tax exempt organizations group. She joins from the firm she founded, Mann Legal Group, and brings with her an associate.

McDermott Will & Emery has a new partner in its New York office. Robert Cohen has left Greenberg Traurig for McDermott's corporate advisory practice.

Charles Clapton is now a partner in Hogan Lovells' health practice in Washington. Clapton was previously health policy director of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

Covington & Burling has added environmental and administrative attorney E. Donald Elliott as senior of counsel in Washington. Elliott was formerly general counsel to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and is an adjunct professor at Yale Law School, where he has taught since 1981.

Michael Tomasulo of Jones Day has joined Winston & Strawn in Los Angeles as partner in the intellectual property practice.

Lucosky Brookman is opening an office in Los Angeles, its first on the West Coast, with the addition of Scott Kline as partner. Most recently Kline was partner in the corporate finance and Asia practice groups at Blank Rome.

A former deputy mayor of Los Angeles, Linda Bernhardt, has been hired by DLA Piper. She will be senior advisor in the firm's real estate practice.

In Chicago, Foley & Lardner has hired Joel Solomon as of counsel in its real estate practice. He was most recently general counsel at real estate developers ST Residential.

Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart has added five attorneys from The Lowenbaum Partnership in its St Louis office. Bob Stewart, Stan Schroeder and Bill Lawson join as shareholders, and Charlie Morgan moves over as of counsel. With them comes an associate.

Steven Norris has left his post as national head of regulated procurement at DLA Piper to join Squire Sanders in Birmingham, Alabama. He will be partner in the firm's regulatory practice.

In a leadership change, Appleby has appointed Frances Woo as group chairman to succeed Peter Bubenzer, who will be retiring from the firm in March after 32 years.

In international moves, Baker & McKenzie has hired Kensaku Takase as partner in Tokyo. He moves over from Hogan Lovells and will be a member in the firm's intellectual property, information technology and electronic commerce group.

Also in Tokyo, Dan LeFort has joined Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman as senior counsel on the firm's cross-disciplinary energy and infrastructure projects team. He moved over from Ashurst.

DLA Piper will open a new office in Seoul, Korea, on Jan. 8 that will be led by Daniel Lee, who will serve as country managing partner.
