WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Trade Commission said it
was restoring competition in the market for bulk bleach in North
Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, reversing a deal that the
commission said violated U.S. antitrust laws.
Oltrin Solutions LLC and JCI Jones Chemicals Inc sell the
bulk bleach to government water departments and industrial
customers to use in disinfecting water.
They signed a non-compete agreement in March 2010 under
which JCI agreed to limit its sales in the region for six years.
The FTC challenged the agreement, and according to the terms
of a settlement order released on Friday, JCI is expected to
re-enter the market.
The companies did not return messages requesting comment.
